At age 7, Erica (Horst) Flaig was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes.  She was able to manage her disease with the help of her loving and supportive family, living a healthy and happy life.  In 2008, Erica was diagnosed with Gastroparesis, a disease that began to shut down her digestive system.  Erica and her family were plagued with frequent hospitalizations, surgeries, and infections.   With a smile on her face, she continued to battle her illness and often rose above it.
Erica's battle with her illness ended July 13, 2013, when she was called home to God and is now at peace.  Her two young daughters, now ages thirteen and sixteen are left in the loving hands of their grandparents.  Friends and family have organized the Erica Horst Flaig Memorial Golf Tournament in an effort to establish an Educational Trust Fund for the girls.
On June 18th, 2020, our family lost Erica’s best friend, Alexis Matinchek Carnes, to a battle with Adenocarcinoma, a rare cancer of unknown origin.  Alexis, her husband JJ, and the Matinchek family have been huge supporters of the tournament and could be found on the golf course and at the pavilion to enthusiastically support Morgan and Michaela.  In addition to her husband, Alexis leaves behind her 7 year old daughter, Mila.  This year we are combining efforts with the Matinchek/Carnes family to raise money for Mila’s Education Fund as well.
